Brian Wyland:

Greetings!

I came to running late in life and with a single road race 5K under my belt, I signed up for my first marathon. Despite a disastrous training block and repeated statements that the 26.2 mile distance for me was going to be a “one and done”, I experienced an absolutely magical day out on the course and fell in love with this demanding, rewarding, and beautiful sport of running.

Shortly after that first marathon, I poured myself into reading, listening and learning as much as I could about endurance running and what I needed to do to get better at it. My favorite distance is the marathon, but I have trained and raced 5Ks and half-marathons as well. I also hope one day to compete in trail and ultra-distance events.

I love discussing all facets of training and racing and I always welcome interacting with and learning from fellow athletes and coaches. Regardless of experience level, current fitness, or aspirations, there is a place for all individuals who wish to be a part of this sport.  What I really cherish about running is the community and fellowship it fosters. Despite different goals, different races, and different paces, runners coming together to inspire and challenge and support and celebrate each other can be powerful and life-altering and is something I hope all runners have the opportunity to experience.

When I am not running or on the bike, I enjoy spending time with my family, being outside as much as possible, and engaged in my other passion of studying North American History.
